Our theme for 2018 was... “carrying connects”. We all know that holding and carrying our children in arms or slings and carriers helps relationships to develop between parent/carer and child. But more than this; such connections can develop between other family members, siblings and local friends. And this goes beyond immediately local connections, the art of babywearing builds bridges between communities, local and further afield, as we all recognise the goodness of what we are doing. It connects us across borders to other countries, to north and south and east and west, it connects us across languages and dialects, across nationalities, race, gender, ability and more. It connects different schools of thought as ultimately we are all doing the same thing; loving our children and each other; and it also connects the past to the present and to the future; those who loved babywearing but no longer have young children to carry, to those who will carry their babies in the future. Truly, carrying connects, powerfully.
